Introduction to manufacturing
Material Properties
Students in the Intro. to Manufacturing class have been learning about material properties and how these properties help determine which materials are selected for specific applications. Currently they are working on strength of materials and learning how they are tested for tensile, compression, shear and impact strength. The students are having to calculate the different stresses (Stress = Force / Area) while performing both simulated and physical tensile testing. The students are using the Virtual Tensometer (click the button to take you there) and the SSA1000 for the physical testing.
