Purdue iron egg launch COMPETITIONThe Muncie Central Bearcat Engineers have decided to participate in this years Purdue Iron Egg Launch competition. So for the next six weeks we will be researching, brainstorming, designing, creating and testing a air powered egg launcher. Speaking from experience, this method is one of the most accurate means of launching an egg.
We ask if there is anyone willing to donate their time and expertise in this field, just contact myself. Again, we meet every Wednesday after school in room 122. Thank you, Mr. Friend Engineering Club Sponsor [email protected] Bearcat Engineers spend time raising money for the club...This past weekend, three club members, Rogan Long, Jordan Winters, and Nathan Niel, spent their Saturday morning raising money for the Bearcat Engineering Club. They were in charge of operating the laser engraver when customers at the Holiday Craft Fair, wanted their items personalized. They spent over 5 hours of their own time running projects back and forth from the table to the classroom (on the opposite end of the school), running the items, and getting them back to the customer. Overall, they helped raise over $75 for the club.
Ideas on what they should do with the new funds include; t-shirts (help offset some of the costs) and supplies for the engraver. I suggested that we purchase some hot dogs and laser engrave their names in them. Yummy!! 11/19/14Students in the Bearcat Engineering club are currently working on product designs that could be use to raise money during the craft fair on Dec. 13th...
Ideas being discussed are; Christmas ornaments, picture frames, cutting boards, etc...Most of the items will also be engraved or could possibly be personalized. If you have ideas that you would like to see us make, please email me @ [email protected] We're back up and running!! |
Yesterday the Bearcat Engineering club met for the second time. The election of club officers was the focal point for this meeting. So without further-ado here are the 2014-2015 Berarcat Engineering Club officers...
President: Mr. Rogan Long
Secretary: Miss. Abigail Jones
Project Manager: Zachary Tidwell
Congratulations to these fine young students. I'm sure you'll do great.
Other items that were discussed were future projects, fundraiser ideas and getting a t-shirt designed.
New to this year, I would like to introduce one college and one engineering term to the club. Yesterday Duke University was brought up as a college of choice. The engineering term that was introduced was tension force and tensile strength. We used the SSA1000 (tensile tester) to demonstrate the tensile strength of both brass and mild steel.
Our next meeting will take place on Oct. 22nd after school in room 122.

The Bearcat Engineering Club meets every Wednesday after school. Students in this club will learn the processes used to laser engrave and/or 3d print items that they have created. The will learn skills not normally taught in the high school setting. Skills that could help prepare them for the advanced manufacturing world we now live in.
When equipment becomes available, I would like to introduce Robotics to these kids. The equipment is now being used by the students in the POE class.
